There was already a wall on the property, designed by the original architect.

I was doing other work for the client at the time, and the wall was not part of that work. I pitched it myself. The idea was to continue the wall the original architect had designed, and to mirror it in reflection on the other side of the property.

It created courtyards and defined spaces. Ground that had been open became enclosed, and the property gained outdoor rooms it did not have before.

It also changed the order in which you read the place. Before, you saw the original main property, and then across to the newly constructed pool house. After, you saw the original main property and this wall that we built. The pool house stopped being the second thing you met.

Planning permission was part of the project. On a listed property that is not the paperwork at the end of the work, it is a good deal of the work, and the case a new wall has to make is mostly a case about the old one.

Nobody asked me for any of it. One wall was already there. The second one is the project.
